A new trailer for The Mummy remake was released and this one ramps up the action and shows more about the plot of the new film in the Universal Expanded Universe.
The latest film stars Tom Cruise and it shows him in action as an operative in the middle east who unknowingly unearths an ancient evil that is set to take over the world and remake it in her image. The film also stars Russell Crowe as the, seemingly, immortal Dr. Henry Jekyll, but the real star of this trailer is Star Trek: Beyond star Sofia Boutella as the title villain/Princess Ahmanet.
There are some really great action moments in the trailer and Boutella is sufficiently creepy as the creature with a couple of really good visually scary moments including one in what looks like flooded underground catacombs. The one question I do have about the movie is why is Tom Cruise’s character so important? Why is his character brought back to life and seemingly the sole obsession of the Mummy herself? Hopefully, I will find that out when the film is released.
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the desert, an ancient princess whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in the modern era, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
The Mummy is unearthed June 9, 2017.
