This is perhaps the most exciting news for gamers since Sony buying Gaikai. For a reported $970M, Amazon have purchased popular video games streaming service, Twitch. Several had wondered what Amazon has in mind. I’m of the belief this is Amazon taking a foothold into gaming by putting themselves in a position to gather tremendous data on gamer habits. This is a good thing for fans of Twitch. Amazon has incredible server hardware powered by Oracle and there should be no fear of data breaches, as Amazon’s entire company is built on the web.

Looking several years down the road, if a company like Amazon uses this information properly, they’ll no doubt position themselves to appeal to gamers the way we would want them to. Exactly what that is remains to be seen.
