One of the nagging questions that has been in the minds of fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been: When is Nick Fury going to return? We’ve watched each subsequent film and charted the progress of each hero and there has been a lack of presence from the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Well, it’s being reported by multiple sources including Deadline, Collider and Nerdist that Samuel L. Jackson is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Nick Fury in the Captain Marvel film set for release in 2019. Details have been closely guarded about the project starring Academy Award winner Brie Larson as Captain Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel and the studio has not commented on the reveal, but the inclusion of Fury makes sense in more than one way.
It’s possible that the events of Infinity War will prompt the Director to come out of hiding and get back to recruiting a new group of heroes. It might also be that Danvers could have run into Fury during her military career and his presence in the film will be in a flashback. Either way, it will be good to see Jackson return to the role. Fury’s last appearance was in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. It would also be a tip of the hat to fans to see Fury return to cameo on the small screen to check on the agency he ran on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Captain Marvel is set to be released March 8, 2019.
