Oscar Winner Brie Larson In A Good Position To Be Courted For ‘Captain Marvel’ Role?

Feb 29, 2016

Last night actress Brie Larson won the Best Actress award for her heartbreaking and powerful role in the film Room. It’ll likely change her entire acting career, and lead to some really interesting acting work in the future.

We’ve seen Brie in almost everything she’s been in, with roles in projects such as 21 Jump StreetScott Pilgrim, Trainwreck, The Gambler, Rampart, and Don Jon. Along with comedic television work on Kroll ShowCommunity and The League.

To say Larson is a versatile actress moving between comedy and drama is an understatement, when you factor-in she’s also a professional singer.

Marvel Studios could come calling post Oscar win, and it wouldn’t be terribly shocking to us.

Larson isn’t opposed to being apart of big action movies either, currently shooting a role in Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island. In that film, Brie is  working with a bunch of Marvel alumni. She’s co-starring with Avengers stars Tom Hiddleson and Samuel L. Jackson, along with Guardians‘ John C. Reilly and Agent Carter‘s Shea Whigham.

Brie also co-starred with Captain America himself Chris Evans in Scott Pilgrim

The studio is known for courting winning and nominated actors for lead roles. A handful that come to mind include Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Benedict Cumberbatch, and more recently with Cate Blanchett. We know Marvel courts actors with heat and an Oscar pedigree, so meeting with Brie wouldn’t be at all shocking.

The project of course I’m sure they’d want her for would be Air Force pilot turned superhero Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.

I still think actors like recent Best Supporting Actress winner Alicia Vikander, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, and others could still be in the running for the Carol Danvers part. I just see Brie Larson brining in a lot of things that Marvel loves to see in leading actors, the prestige but also the ability to handle both humorous and dramatic moments.

Not having a huge action background outside of Skull Island shouldn’t be a huge deal, just look at Chris Pratt, who only had really one action role with Zero Dark Thirty before landing the Guardians of The Galaxy gig.

In my opinion, I could see Marvel pursing Brie to play Carol Danvers. Luckily, she hasn’t racked-up a million projects and this gives her the ability to sign-on for Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and the lead in the Captain Marvel franchise.

What do you think about Brie Larson playing Carol Danvers in Infinity War and Captain Marvel movies?
