Out #2

After starting the series of slowly — despite the intense ending — Out #2 is a big step in the right direction. While there are a few more viscous moments that’ll stick with you, thanks to Will Conrad’s captivating art, the success of this issue is there’s more purpose with each panel.

After starting the series of slowly — despite the intense ending — Out #2 is a big step in the right direction. While there are a few more viscous moments that’ll stick with you, thanks to Will Conrad’s captivating art, the success of this issue is there’s more purpose with each panel.

Although we had to meet a lot of new characters in the series opener, we were being thrust in a familiar world. We’ve all read or seen a World War II story over the years. So as much as we’re in a different setting within that big historical event and dealing with perhaps characters who we haven’t learned as much about, this is still something we’re all familiar with. But that decision in the first issue is little easier to accept with Out #2 moving forward right away

We now know the big monster. We know the few characters this will be centered around. And we have an idea of everyone’s goals. Chaos could ensue at any moment.

That’s when AWA/Upshot stories are at their best — moving at such a brisk pace that it feels like the story could end at any moment. It presents readers with questions they might not normally ask themselves.

I alluded to my feeling about Conrad’s art, but there’s a bit more to it. His style gives this story an epic nature. It feels like this is pulled straight out of Call of Duty. And his monster really is something. Can’t wait to see how things progress.
