The upcoming horror film Overlord is seemingly impressing certain people at 20th Century Fox.
Deadline reports that the Aussie writer-director Julius Avery‘s next project will be setup at the studio and it will be their long gestating Flash Gordon reboot, which had Matthew Vaughn eyeing over the last couple of years. After Avery pitched his take on the material to the studio that ended up impressing them.
Flash Gordon is an adaptation of the pulp comic-strip hero who originated in 1934, with Earthling Flash pitted on the planet Mongo fighting its tyrannical ruler, Ming the Merciless.
It’s interesting, as Flash Gordon would most likely be one of the first films shot once Disney has settled in as overseeing 20th Century Fox. There is a good chance the project could go PG-13, as the material has never been overly violent or sexual (not including the adult/cult film parody Flesh Gordon).
The film from 1980 film sort of defined the decade’s taste in fantasy and action film making, it also has an amazing score from Queen.
There’s no word who’ll end up playing Flash, but if Fox isn’t considering Chris Hemsworth they would be fools.
Production and release dates have yet be revealed as the project was only just announced as going into development.
