Paramount is continuing to gear up for a new slew of movies that include a reboot of the G.I. Joe franchise and there’s news that one of the most popular Joe characters is getting a spinoff film.
Snake Eyes is one of the most popular and recognizable characters in G.I. Joe history and it looks like Paramount is getting ready to give the character a solo film. According to reports in Deadline and Variety, Beauty and Beast writer Evan Spiliotopoulos is in negotiations to write the script with Brian Goldner on board to produce the film.
Snake Eyes is a mystery in the G.I. Joe canon. He is a silent character who trained as a ninja after serving in the US Army. His real name and past are still considered classified to this day and he is known for his signature black uniform, balaclava and mask that hides his features. He is considered one of the best fighters in the world, mastering 12 different martial arts disciplines as well as being an expert in military weapons, though he is usually seen carrying a Japanese Katana.
While a Snake Eyes film sounds exciting on paper, logistically there are some issues with having an entire film around a character that cannot speak and wears a mask that allows for no expression.
No director has been named for the feature and there is no word on whether actor Ray Park, who played the character in both G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe Retaliation has been asked to return.
