The live-action feature film adaptation of ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ now has John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein in talks to direct. Director Chris McKay (‘The Lego Batman Movie,’ ‘Nightwing’) is no longer part of the project.
The duo did the story and first draft of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’ Further, they directed and performed uncredited rewrites to last year’s ‘Game Night.’ They were attached to the long-gestating ‘The Flash’ solo film for Warner Bros. and DC, but left due to creative differences. They are also going to write, direct, and produce ‘The Creeps’ for Universal.
Back in March, screenwriter Michael Gilio (‘Kwik Stop,’ ‘Jolene’) gave Paramount a new draft of the script, and the studio was “absolutely buzzing.”
Also, here is the wishlist for the male lead role, with the frontrunner in bold:
- Dave Bautista (‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘Blade Runner 2049’)
- Josh Brolin (‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’)
- Vin Diesel (‘Fast & Furious,’ ‘The Last Witch Hunter’)
- Johnny Depp (‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’)
- Joel Edgerton (‘Red Sparrow,’ ‘Boy Erased’)
- Jamie Foxx (‘Baby Driver,’ ‘Robin Hood’)
- Matthew McConaughey (‘White Boy Rick,’ ‘Serenity’)
- Chris Pratt (‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,’ ‘The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part’)
- Jeremy Renner (‘Wind River,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame’)
- Will Smith (‘Suicide Squad,’ ‘Aladdin’)
Further, the studio is aiming for a late-summer or early-fall production start.
Paramount has set the release date for November 19, 2021.
