In a strategic decision, Paramount Pictures has moved the release date of ‘The Rhythm Section’ from February 22 to November 22. This is the studio’s action-franchise hopeful starring Blake Lively and Jude Law. Also, Reed Morano (‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’) is directing, with a screenplay by Mark Burnell.
The premise is below:
“Drake is a heroine who adopts the identity of an assassin to get to the bottom of her family’s death in a plane crash. She discovers it may not have been an accident at all. The gritty spy tale is adapted from Mark Burnell’s novels surrounding character Stephanie Patrick.”
Moreover, the new date is attractive for several reasons, especially the Thanksgiving box office. Paramount is hoping this acts as counter-programming to competitor Disney’s ‘Frozen 2.’
Further, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson (‘James Bond’) are producing through their Eon banner. Given their track record in the genre, the film could be a big deal for Lively. Last year, she had success with the noir comedy ‘A Simple Favor.’
In short, Paramount will release the film now November 22.
