The entire team here at Geek With Wives would like to take a moment to pay honor and tribute to a great friend and member of our community. Sometime in the early hours of Tuesday March 12th, 2014, our dear friend Mike ” Mj” Ramirez passed away due to heart related issues. Mike, among many things, was the co-founder and face of ZappCon. He was a monthly guest on the Geeks With Wives and Capes podcast and we had just begun what had become a great friendship with this man. Casey Walsh and myself had gotten the opportunity to spend a great deal of time with MJ at Comikaze last November and he made a significant impact on our lives in such a short time. We spoke about life, the future of comics and where he wanted to take his career, as well as his dream of bringing the best comic convention to Fresno. We came to know Mike as one of those rare souls that was warm, intelligent, friendly, wise, down right hilarious, and a genius. Mike made you feel like you had been friends for years no matter how long you knew him. Mike had a lot to bring to our geek community! He was a visionary and I am truly saddened that we will not get to see where his vision would have taken him, our community , and our home town. Mostly I am saddened that we lost a brother and a friend.
Our love and condolences go out to MJ’s wife, his daughters, and his entire family. We at Geeks With Wives have vowed to carry on Mike’s legacy and vision in whatever way we can.
