Sony is making serious strides in getting their Venom movie up on its feet after casting Tom Hardy in the lead. Now there’s news that another Marvel character will be joining the upcoming film as well.
The Venom film, which will not be part of the Spider-Man/Marvel Studios universe will exist on its own and it’s being reported that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Riz Ahmed is in talks to play a popular Marvel Comics character. (Considering one man’s “popular” is another man’s “Who?”, I’ll take this with a grain of salt.) Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) is directing the film based on a script by Scott Rosenberg (“Jumanji”) and Jeff Pinkner (“The Dark Tower”) and Amy Pascal and Avi Arad will serve as producers.
According to several sources, including ones close to Geeks WorldWide, Ahmed will be coming onboard as Cletus Kasady aka Carnage. In the comics, Kasady is a homicidal sadist who becomes a serial killer before bonding with the Carnage symbiote. The casting should give an interesting view into how Sony plans to interpret Venom in the film if Carnage is being queued up as the villain.
Venom is scheduled to be released in theaters October 5, 2018.
