Robert Rodriguez Reportedly Frontrunner To Direct Fox’s ‘Escape From New York’ Reboot

Mar 24, 2017

A couple hours ago Meet The Movie Press revealed that Robert Rodriguez was in the mix to direct 20th Century Fox’s Escape From New York reboot. Now, Jeff has an update via Tracking Board claiming the director is now the frontrunner.

The film’s recent draft was rewritten by Luther creator Neil Cross and is said to be an origin film of sorts following Col. Robert “Snake” Plissken.

Rodriguez is currently working on Alita: Battle Angel for Fox.

Fingers crossed that Robert considers casting a Latino actor like Zero Dark Thirty’s Edgar Ramirez.

John Carpenter‘s Escape From New York was originally focused on Snake Plissken, former hero now infamous criminal. He’s sent into Manhattan to recover the president after he’s kidnapped by a gang, the island itself is now a dystopian prison.
