RUMOR: Directors Robert Rodriguez and David Mackenzie Up For ‘Escape From New York’

Mar 24, 2017

Another bit of directing news from Meet The Movie Press as Jeff states rumblings that Fox is currently eyeing candidates such as Hell or High Water’s David Mackenzie and Alita: Battle Angel’s Robert Rodriguez to direct the Escape From New York reboot.

This could mean that Mackenzie might be passing on Scarface.

Robert is already a part of the Fox family via producing Predators and directing Alita: Battle Angel. He’s also a big fan of these 80’s classic films and could be the type of director to remove the look of the film from a cookie-cutter generic look I’ve been dreading.

It’s interesting to see Robert’s name in the mix since there were plans of Alita becoming a trilogy of films.

Lionsgate had been attempting a remake for years until the rights moved over to 20th Century Fox.
