RUMOR: ‘Moonlight’s Janelle Monae Latest Frontrunner For Domino Role In ‘Deadpool 2’

Mar 8, 2017

Only a couple of weeks it was looking like Kerry Washington was going to playing Domino in David Leitch’s Deadpool 2. Well, another is now rumored to be the newest frontrunner to play the mutant mercenary.

ThatHashtagShow is back with a rumor that suggests Moonlight’s Janelle Monae (also a professional singer) is now the top candidate for the role.

The site has been reliable for character breakdowns in the past and other casting news concerning Marvel TV projects.

This isn’t terribly hard to believe with 20th Century casting her co-stars in recent action films including recent Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali in Alita: Battle Angel directed by Robert Rodriguez and Trevante Rhodes taking a role in Shane Black’s The Predator. The studio obviously wants that cast in their upcoming blockbusters and it doesn’t hurt the film recently won Best Picture.

UPDATE: Co-writer and producer Rhett Reese poured some cold water on the news via Twitter. However, we’ve been told that only Ryan Reynolds will be announcing casting/character news on his social media. It’s weird that Reese would speak on this but not the many other casting rumors concerning the project, seems a bit fishy.

Stranger Things’ David Harbour is also rumored to have screen-tested for the role of Nathan Summers aka Cable, the role like Domino is expected to bleed into the X-Force franchise as well.

Production on the film starts this June in Vancouver with a release expected sometime in 2018.
