At D23, Kevin Feige and Ryan Coogler officially announced a date for ‘Black Panther II.’ The Marvel Studios film will release on May 6, 2022. The project came without a subtitle, with Coogler stating it was a little too early for that to be revealed.
Conspicuously, the Marvel Studios films to release on February 18, 2022 and July 29, 2022 remain yet untitled, leaving ‘Black Panther II’ the only 2022 MCU film to be revealed. My speculation is that another one of the 2022 films is ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ as James Gunn is expected to film ‘Vol. 3′ after completing work on Warner Bros.’ ‘The Suicide Squad.’ We at the GWW previously reported that a ‘Fantastic Four’ film would be released in 2022, and while that exclusive has yet to be confirmed, it remains a strong possibility for that film to take the July 29 slot. Other options include ‘Blade’ and ‘Deadpool,’ which are highly anticipated. The first ‘Deadpool’ released in February and grossed more than its sequel, making it a strong contender for a February date.
Everett Ross’ actor Martin Freeman, who confirmed he is returning for the sequel, recently revealed that filming on ‘Black Panther II’ would not commence until 2021. It was originally reported that filming would take place in late 2019 or early 2020, but the film was pushed back, with Coogler still in early stages of scripting the sequel. Coogler has delivered a treatment to Kevin Feige, but plot details remain under wraps.
Chadwick Boseman is expected to reprise the role of the titular character. Danai Gurira is also returning as Okoye.
