Today, Entertainment Weekly announced that School of Rock tv show star Brec Bassinger has been cast as the hero Stargirl. Stargirl is an upcoming DC Comics streaming series that will debut exclusively on DC Universe streaming platform. Geoff Johns who created the character in 1999 is producing the upcoming series as well.
The series follows Courtney, a high school sophomore, as she inspires a group of young heroes to fight villains from the past. The series is supposed to be a reimagining of both the titular hero and the Justice Society of America.
Johns went onto add about casting Brec in the role of Courtney Whitemore:
“There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl, and after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.”
