Warner Bros. Animation is making a new ‘Scooby-Doo’ feature film, based on the wildly popular brand, and we now have more casting. Rounding out the Mystery Inc. gang is Zac Efron as Fred and Amanda Seyfried as Daphne.
Efron got his breakout role in the Disney Channel original film ‘High School Musical,’ which led to two sequels. As of late, he was in the ‘Neighbors’ films, James Franco’s ‘The Disaster Artist,’ and ‘The Greatest Showman,’ starring Hugh Jackman. This year, he has Harmony Korine’s ‘The Beach Bum,’ releasing March 29th, and Joe Berlinger’s ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile,’ releasing this fall on Netflix.
Seyfried is popular for her role in ‘Mean Girls,’ from 2004. She then got roles in the ‘Veronica Mars’ series, Tom Hooper’s ‘Les Misérables,’ Seth MacFarlane’s ‘Ted 2,’ and both ‘Mamma Mia!’ films. She was recently in David Lynch’s revival of ‘Twin Peaks,’ and Paul Schrader’s ‘First Reformed.’ Next, she has Simon Curtis’ ‘The Art of Racing in the Rain,’ releasing September 27th, and David Koepp’s ‘You Should Have Left,’ which does not have a date yet.
The other cast members, and their roles, are below:
- Scooby-Doo: Frank Welker (‘Scooby Doo, Where Are You!,’ ‘Star Wars: Resistance’)
- Shaggy: Will Forte (‘The Last Man on Earth,’ ‘The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part’)
- Velma: Gina Rodriguez (‘Jane the Virgin,’ ‘Carmen Sandiego’)
- Captain Caveman: Tracy Morgan (‘The Last O.G.,’ ‘Green Eggs and Ham’)
Also, the premise of the movie is below:
“The story sees the Mystery Inc. gang join forces with other heroes of the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from Dick Dastardly and his evil plans…and this time, we are told, the threat is real.”
Moreover, Tony Cervone is making his big screen debut, after helming several direct-to-video movies. However, of those films, he’s directed seven different ‘Tom and Jerry’ movies, as well as two ‘Scooby-Doo’ movies. Not only that, he has 39 episodes of ‘Duck Dodgers’ to his name.
Further, the screenplay is from Matt Lieberman, who has written several movies in various stages of development. Coming out this year is the animated film ‘The Addams Family,’ releasing October 18, from United Artists Releasing. Meanwhile, he has a whopping three movies arriving next year. There’s Paramount’s ‘Playing with Fire’ (March 20, 2020), 20th Century Fox’s ‘Free Guy’ (July 3, 2020), and Paramount Animation’s ‘Monster on the Hill’ (sometime in 2020). His most recent film is Netflix’s ‘The Christmas Chronicles.’
The film, currently under the title of ‘Scoob,’ has a date of May 15, 2020.
