Scott Eastwood Eyed For Key ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Role; Release Set For February 2018

Jul 1, 2016

Scott Eastwood (Fury, Fast 8, Suicide Squad) might be joining Force Awakens‘ John Boyega in the Pacific Rim sequel according to Deadline. The trade website suggests Legendary and director Steven S. DeKnight are looking to cast Scott in unnamed but key role, yet another sign that Charlie Hunnam likely won’t be returning.

Eastwood recently landed a new role in Fast 8 and will have a small supporting role in this summer’s Suicide Squad.

Keep in might neither Hunnam or Rinko Kikuchi have been mentioned in these trade reports as returning, so it’s possible that the stipulation for getting the sequel made might be finding stronger leads. They could be returning, but you’d expect them to secure and announce returning leads before hiring new cast members, it does suggest they aren’t coming back.

Production on Pacific Rim 2 begins this fall with a new release date set for February 23rd, 2018.
