Paramount Pictures is trying to develop a heap of action projects including a G.I. Joe spin-off focusing on the fan-favourite Snake Eyes. The studio has tasked screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and The Beast) to pen the Snake Eyes script which seems to be in the early development stages at the moment.
Our friends at DisscussingFilm conducted an interview with Evan and the subject switched to his Snake Eyes project, while he couldn’t talk about the story he did dish about the epic vision they have for the film.
“Our vision is if it was a Hong Kong movie of the 70’s directed by Akira Kurosawa. I wish I could get into story but that’s the idea of going back to a rough-and-tumble, you know, Bruce Lee movie but directed by one of the greatest Japanese filmmakers of all-time.”
This take on the character sounds like they going for an Enter The Dragon meets Yojimo/Ran/Seven Samurai combination, while it sounds nifty I’m going to be very excited to see who ends up directing and what the scale will look like.
Paramount has yet to give Snake Eyes an official release date, and as far as we know a director has yet to be hired by the studio.
It’s still a project we are anticipating after Paramount gave us Mission: Impossible – Fallout and they’re still shooting Tim Miller’s Terminator film, the expectations are high they’ll focus on making a great action film this time around rather than a reason to release a new line of toys and merch.
