The Wrap is reporting Rachel Zegler who will soon appear in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story is joining the cast of Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
The site is reporting Zegler will paly a key role in the film but her character details are being held close to the vest at this time, so let the speculation begin. Considering the films title her being a version of DC villanious Fury would be a fun twist. Fury has had many version of the comics, most recently she is from Earth 2 and is the daughter of Wonder Woman and Steppenwolf and is the “last amazon” of that world.
While the above idea is fun the more likely case is she is the youngest of one of the three witches, The Kindly Ones, or Fury of the Fates, whom go by Cynthia, Mildred and Mordred. A recent casting call indicated DC was looking to cast the three sisters and was looking for a young Zendaya type to play the role of Cynthia the youngest of the three witches.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods is the sequel DC and New Line’s Shazam starring Zachary Levi and featured a young Billy Batson who was embided with the power of the gods by a magical wizard to become Earth’s champion. There are little details on the sequel but this recent casting indicates the film is well on its way so hopefully more news will come soon.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods will be directed by David S. Sandberg who helmed the first film with a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan. Peter Safran and Geoff Johns are set as producers through their production companies The Safran Compang and Mad Ghost Productions.
