Production on the first ever live-action Pokemon movie is ramping up for Detective Pikachu. We at Omega Underground revealed earlier this week that filming is expected to commence this January. So casting should be completed in the coming months.
Now our friends over at That Hashtag Show has revealed the shortlist of actors Legendary wants to voice and motion-capture the role of Detective Pikachu. According to their sources, Dwayne Johnson has expressed interest in the role. However, other names on the list include Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and Mark Wahlberg. The report does mention the studio hasn’t made any offical offer yet to any of the actors listed.
Yes, this seems confusing considering that Pikachu never spoke in the animated series. But this incarnation of the character is a hyper-intelligent Pikachu that so happens to also be a detective. It’s gonna be fun watching a cute adorable Pikachu voiced by any one of these gruff manly actors.
The film is going to be directed by Goosebumps director Rob Letterman. With a script by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch.
