‘Sicario’s Denis Villeneuve On Shortlist To Direct ‘Bond 25’

Jul 26, 2017

Deadline has word of three potential directors for Bond 25, expected to star Daniel Craig (not confirmed) in his final outing as 007.

The names include Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Blade Runner 2049), David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water), and Yann Demange (’71), They seem to want a direct that can handle grit and action, which all three clearly can do.

Although, Denis has the prestige to his name (not unlike Sam Mendes) and could attract audiences slightly wary of another outing with Craig post-Spectre. This could be an excellent alternative until someone like Christopher Nolan is asked to reset with a new Bond. Denis is finishing up Blade Runner 2049, and then has a window in his schedule while Dune and a Blade Runner sequel are developing scripts.

We could more names as other trades weigh-in on the news.

UPDATE: Variety is suggesting that Yann (who Americans are unfamiliar with) is the possible frontrunner. They also add that Warner Bros. is the closet studio at the moment to land the distribution for the film.

Bond 25 is expected to begin filming next year (possibly one location being Croatia) and it’s release date set for November 8th, 2019.
