Simon Kinberg Confirms ‘Wolverine 3’ Is Set In The Future

Apr 12, 2016

Simon Kinberg is currently making the press rounds to help promote the home release of Deadpool and has revealed a small tidbit concerning Wolverine 3. The third film directed by James Mangold will be Hugh Jackman’s last time playing the iconic mutant hero.

Simon revealed to Cinema Blend that the film will indeed be set in the future.

“The Wolverine movie takes place in the future.”

The quote seems to give the impression that the film might be taking place in the post-apocalyptic future seen in Old Man Logan comics said to be influencing the film, but could also be the alternate future from Days of Future Past. This would explain the participation of Patrick Stewart‘s Charles Xavier, he could be replacing an elderly Hawkeye as Logan’s sidekick.

The left-field character description for Boyd Holbrook‘s unnamed villain seemed like a very odd misdirection, it’ll be curious if he’s really playing someone that simple.

Production is set to begin soon in both New Mexico and New Orleans with the release date slatted for March 3rd, 2017.
