Spike Lee’s next directing vehicle ‘Da 5 Bloods’ is aiming to get Chadwick Boseman, Delroy Lindo, and Jean Reno to join the cast.
Meanwhile, Netflix is in talks for distribution.
That Hashtag Show was the first to report on the film’s development, in January. They also noted Samuel L. Jackson and Giancarlo Esposito were in talks to join the ensemble. They would play two of the film’s four male leads. Don Cheadle was also in the mix for the third lead.
Boseman is riding high off the success of the seven Academy Award nominated ‘Black Panther.’ The most recent film he was a part of was ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ He will next be seen in STX Entertainment’s ’17 Bridges,’ releasing July 12.
Lindo and Lee have collaborated several times, with ‘Clockers,’ ‘Crooklyn,’ and ‘Malcolm X.’ He is currently in the CBS All Access series ‘The Good Fight.’
Reno is famous for his role in ‘Léon: The Professional.’ He was very popular in the late 1990’s with ‘Mission: Impossible,’ ‘Godzilla,’ and ‘Ronin.’ He will also be in Nick Cassavetes’ ‘The Manuscript,’ which is in pre-production.
The premise is below:
“A group of African-American Vietnam vets return to Vietnam to find the remains of a fellow soldier as well as gold that has been hidden for 50 years. The men will have to come to terms with themselves as well as the lives they’ve lead.”
Lee will also write the film with Kevin Willmott (‘Chi-Raq,’ ‘BlacKkKlansman’), based on an original screenplay by Danny Bilson & Paul DeMeo (1990’s ‘The Flash,’ ‘The Rocketeer’), and rewrite by Matthew Billingsly.
Further, the film is looking to begin filming in South East Asia sometime this March.
