The Hollywood Reporter has learned that a new ‘Star Wars’ movie is in development at Lucasfilm and Disney.
While details on the movie are being kept under wraps, THR notes that it’s currently unknown if this will be a theatrical release or a Disney+ original film. Another tidbit is that this film is unrelated to the pitch by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and the trilogy from ‘Last Jedi’ writer-director Rian Johnson.
The movie will be developed by Matt Owens (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ ‘The Defenders,’ ‘Luke Cage’) and J.D. Dillard (‘Sleight,’ ‘Sweetheart,’ ‘Stray’). It is unclear if Dillard will direct the film if it moves forward.
Meanwhile, J.J. Abrams’ ‘Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’ was the most recent ‘Star Wars’ movie, releasing on December 20, 2019. The film not only ended the sequel trilogy, but also finished the entire Skywalker saga.
However, this new film is still early in development, so there is still no timeline for when it will come out. Keep in mind, the next ‘Star Wars’ movie is dated for December 16, 2022.
