Season 1, Episode 10 “Brainwave Jr.”
With the cliffhanger of Barb walking in on Pat, Court and the Cosmic staff, the outcome isn’t good news for the JSA. With Pat handling the fallout with Barb, Courtney is looking to try and speed up her plan to take down the Injustice League. While that is going on Henry Jr. has learned more about his dad Brainwave and the truth about his mother’s death. The ramifications of the secrets coming out, we see one of the sides suffer a major loss.
The episode’s main focus is on the choices and the consequences people make. With Henry hoping that with his father’s recovery he can turn him to the side of good similar to what his mother was doing before her death. Courtney is finally able to confront Barb about Starman and why the staff has chosen her.
Relationship building is the other item touched upon this episode. We see Henry Jr. finally understand how his father got to where he is at. This part of the episode is where it hits all the marks. From the last episode we saw him struggle with the notion that everyone is inherently evil. Courtney knowing that’s not the case, left a little doubt of that in his mind.
One of the questions that was always there but never asked was how did Barb and Pat meet and why Blue Valley. We get our answer to those questions and it’s adorable. We won’t spoil it as it helps set up most of the episode in regards to Barb and Pats story in the episode.
Overall this episode is great. We have great fight sequences and good character development. The main focus and the subplots do a great job working with each other and keeps the story moving forward. With so many moving parts, it’s easy to neglect one yet Stargirl is able to keep each one entertaining.
