Superman & Lois Ups [SPOILER] to Series Regular

Natalie Irons makes waves as she becomes series regular

In a shocking twist, Superman & Lois will feature a season 1 guest star in a main role next season. At the end of last night’s season finale, titled ‘Last Sons of Krypton’, a pod landed on the Kent farm. Inside of the pod was Natalie Irons, played by Tayler Buck, who is now a series regular on the show.

Who is Natalie Irons?

Natalie is the daughter of John Henry Irons and an alternate version of Lois Lane, that was killed by the Superman of their Earth. She first appeared in the seventh episode of the season, titled ‘Man of Steel’, that revealed John Henry’s backstory. In the following episodes, John Henry revealed that he believed Natalie was dead, which is why he was so shocked to be reunited with his daughter at the end of tonight’s episode.

In the comics, Natasha (not Natalie) Irons is John Henry Irons’ niece. She eventually succeeds him as the superhero Steel and even gets her own superpowers. While it is currently unknown if Natalie will become a superhero in the show, her promotion is very exciting. It’ll be interesting to see her and John’s dynamic in season 2, as well as her reaction to Earth-Prime’s Lois. I’m also looking forward to seeing how her return will impact Jonathan and John’s relationship.

What will season 2 look like?

One star whose role in season 2 is currently unknown is Adam Rayner (Morgan Edge/The Eradicator). His character was apprehended at the end of last night’s finale, which placed doubt on the actor’s return next season. Showrunner Todd Helbing told TVLine that he thinks we’ll see Rayner’s Edge and Stacey Farber’s Leslie Larr “in some capacity moving forward”. Helbing’s statement hints that Rayner is no longer in the show’s main cast, however, it is too early to tell.

Helbing also revealed that season 2 might have more connections to the rest of the Arrowverse. A possible connection is the identity of Tegan Wickhem’s father. Tegan is a student at Smallville High and Jonathan’s love interest. In the penultimate episode of the season, she told Jonathan that she and her mother moved to Smallville from Central City because of her father’s arrest. According to Helbing, Tegan’s father could “possibly” be a character we’ve met on The Flash.

Tayler appeared in two episodes of season 1 and is the second actor to receive a promotion on the series. Sofia Hasmik, aka Smallville Gazette journalist Chrissy Beppo, is also joining the main cast. Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Jordan Elsass, Alex Garfin, Erik Valdez, Inde Navarrette, Wolé Parks, Dylan Walsh and Emmanuelle Chriqui also star.

Superman & Lois will return for its second season in early 2022.
