Barry’s training with the Rogues will need to yield results if he’s going to finally take down Cold.
The end of the world is looming and Captain Cold is preparing to take down the Flash one final time before everything ends. With Barry, Wallace, and Avery continuing to have adverse reactions to the speed force, they will continue to train with Weather Wizard, Golden Glider and Heat Wave in hopes of controlling their powers long enough to begin the next phase of their plan.
The plan to steal the final pieces of Mirror Master’s mirror will find the heroes and villains breaking into the Rogue’s layer to find the final pieces. When they discover that it is a trap, Mirror Master reveals he’s working with Cold and the ruler of Central City reveals that he’s gotten more than one upgrade from Lex Luthor.
There are some entertaining moments throughout this issue and Joshua Williamson knows these characters and their complicated histories. While the twist at the end of the issue is definitely well-executed, the arc continues to feel like it’s running out of steam. Too much of this arc is centered on the Rogues and Flash and the others feel like background players in their own story. I barely get the sense that this story needs Flash at all because it feels like Cold is the main focus. I’m waiting for this arc to be over so that the story can get back to Flash’s journey.
Christian Duce delivers some dynamic and beautiful art in this issue. Everything from the characters to the backgrounds is filled with beautiful details and there is an energy to the action.
