Legendary Helen Mirren has agreed to play opposite Zachary Levi in Warner Brothers upcoming movie Shazam: Fury of the Gods. Set to start filming soon, Shazam has found the face for a new villain – Hespera, played by Mirren.
Hespera, daughter of titan Atlas from where Billy’s powers originate, and her place in the DCEU should prove to be compelling with Mirren taking on the role. She is no stranger to coming into a comic universe with previous projects such as RED 2.
It is unclear where the character could fall as there isn’t a precedent for her in the comics that I’m aware of. With a sibling who may or may not be up to no good and the possibility of having daddy’s powers, it makes me wonder what direction writer Henry Gayden and director David Sanberg chose for her.
No matter how unclear it is how this will tie into the ending of hit parent movie Shazam released in 2019, one thing is for sure, Mirren could make a formidable foe for our not so pint-sized hero.
