‘The Guest’s Adam Wingard Closes Deal To Direct ‘Godzilla vs Kong’

May 31, 2017

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that director Adam Wingard (Death Note, Blair Witch, The Guest) has closed a deal to helm Legendary’s Godzilla vs Kong. A production start hasn’t been mentioned but it’s expected that filming could take place sometime next year.

They also mention that Adam was in the mix to direct Sony’s Venom movie starring Tom Hardy.

Some were assuming that the studio would likely look to Kong: Skull Island‘s Jordan Vogt-Roberts, but the director is focusing his energy on a Metal Gear Solid movie (has a script) for Sony Pictures. He reaffirmed these plans repeatedly during Kong’s extensive press tour a couple of months ago. There’s also chatter of a possible sequel to Skull Island starting early development as well.

Michael Dougherty is about to begin shooting Godzilla: King of The Monsters in Atlanta.

Godzilla vs Kong is set for release on May 22nd, 2020.
