‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ Adds Morgan Freeman to Cast

Mar 11, 2019

The sequel to ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ will now include Morgan Freeman, amongst the returning cast members. The film is under the title of ‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.’ Revenge of the Fans was the first to report on Freeman’s casting.

Freeman has been in over 100 projects throughout his career. But, some of the most notable ones are ‘Driving Miss Daisy,’ ‘The Shawshank Redemption,’ and ‘Se7en.’ Last year, he was in Sony’s ‘Alpha’ and Disney’s ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.’ Next up for him is the upcoming ‘Angel Has Fallen,’ the third installment in the franchise, releasing August 23rd.

Meanwhile, if RotF was correct about Freeman, then it means Antonio Banderas (‘The Mask of Zorro,’ ‘Genius: Picasso’) could very well be in the film too.

Additionally, Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek will all be reprising their roles from the first movie.

Side-note: This will mark the first time Freeman and Jackson have been in a film together.

The logline is below:

“Bodyguard Michael Bryce (Reynolds), is enlisted by Darius Kincaid (Jackson) and Sonia Kincaid (Hayek) to join them on a mission along the Amalfi Coast.”

Also, newcomer Frank Grillo will play an Interpol agent who needs the help of Bryce and the Kincaids to prevent a cyber attack in Europe.

Moreover, Patrick Hughes is returning to direct, as well as Tom O’Connor for the screenplay. The budget is reportedly $70 million, over double the amount of the first film’s $30 million.

Further, filming is currently underway in the Amalfi Coast, Italy. Other locations could include Scotland, Bulgaria, and the United Kingdom.

Lionsgate has not given the film a release date yet.
