THE MUPPETS Return to ABC in First Trailer For New Series

May 12, 2015

It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights. It’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight. Well…Sort of at least. It’s time for The Muppets to make their triumphant return to television in the first trailer for their new series, The Muppets., which will be premiering this fall on ABC.

The new series is being created by Bill Prady, who has been a big part of the Muppets history over the last three decades. He’s written many episodes and specials of the series, so he knows the characters and the world well. He’s also a big part of the success of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, so he knows how to make a comedy that audiences will love, and the first trailer for this new Muppet series looks no different.

The series is in the style of The Office, with the show playing off the mockumentary style filmmaking. It’s rather fitting for a Muppet series to go this way, considering the characters and universe have always been very meta in the way it handles itself. The trailer is very promising, and feels more like a classic Jim Henson Muppets series, and less like Muppets Most Wanted, which was a decent follow up to the 2011 film starring Jason Segal, but it didn’t seem to have the heart and humor that made the latter so exciting. This series seems to offer all that and more, and it’s great to see the Muppets returning to television.

Check out the trailer for the series, which will be on Tuesday nights on ABC this Fall.

The Muppets return to primetime with a contemporary, documentary-style show. For the first time ever, a series will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, breakups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires. This is a more adult Muppet show, for “kids” of all ages.

Edit: It has come to my intention that the YouTube version of the trailer has broken audio, so isn’t quite right. You can head over to The Muppets facebook page to watch the trailer with proper audio.
