A sequel to ‘The Nun,’ the highest grossing film in the Conjuring Universe, is now officially in the works. Akela Cooper will be writing the screenplay for the film. She will be taking over from the first film’s writer Gary Dauberman (both ‘It’ movies and all three ‘Annabelle’ films).
Cooper began her career on several television shows, with Disney’s ‘TRON: Uprising,’ NBC’s ‘Grimm,’ and CW’s ‘The 100.’ The latter two she was both story editor and writer. For film, she was a writer on last year’s Lionsgate film ‘Hell Fest.’ She also wrote the upcoming A.I. doll thriller ‘M3gan’ for James Wan’s Atomic Monster banner. Other credits include FX’s ‘American Horror Story,’ Netflix’s ‘Luke Cage,’ and Disney’s ‘Avengers Assemble.’ Next she has Netflix’s ‘Jupiter’s Legacy,’ from Steven S. DeKnight (‘Daredevil’).
Moreover, it is unknown if director Corin Hardy (‘The Hallow,’ ‘Gangs of London’) will be returning.
The cast of the first film comprises of Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, and Bonnie Aarons. It is also unknown who will come back for the sequel. But, considering Bonnie Aarons plays the titular character, it is very likely she returns.
Meanwhile, the other upcoming installments in the Conjuring Universe include Gary Dauberman’s ‘Annabelle Comes Home,’ releasing June 28th, and Michael Chaves’ ‘The Conjuring 3,’ releasing September 11, 2020. Additionally, there’s the secret Conjuring movie ‘The Curse of La Llorona,’ also from Chaves, releasing April 19th. A ‘Crooked Man’ spin-off film is still in development, from writer Mike Van Waes (‘Lilo & Stitch’ remake’).
