Simon Stagg gets an unexpected diagnosis and a dark offer from a dangerous creature.

Simon Stagg has just received some devastating news and the industrialist doesn’t know what to do about it. Unfortunately for him, a dark creature has an offer for him. An offer that will give him the one thing he is running out of; time.

At the launch of a new high speed rail system developed by Terrific and Stagg, the Terrifics are on hand to make sure things run smoothly. When one of the trains gets derailed, the team will discover not only that the passengers are missing, but that Stagg is involved in something darker than they could imagine.

Yang delivers a really fun story in this issue. Stagg’s motivations are more personal and make the drama more intense. The team works well together and have a camaraderie that is fun to see play out. The story is paced well and builds with a natural momentum that takes into account the strengths of the characters. At the same time, having Stagg as the antagonist can feel repetitive and the Sapphire/Rex dynamic is tedious. The story does take an interesting twist in the end and the final page is just fun for both its unexpectedness and the potential of things to come.

Sergio Davila delivers some fantastic visuals throughout this issue and the action is some of the best I’ve seen with these characters particularly. Davila does a great job of building on the character moments throughout and bringing them to life as the story builds to its finale.
