Taika Waititi’s ascension into mainstream filmmaking has been both surprising and impressive. After releasing the delightful crowd-pleaser Hunt for the Wilderpeople in 2016, Waititi went on to direct the massive worldwide and critical success Thor: Ragnarok for Marvel Studios and won an Oscar in 2020 for the “anti-hate satire” Jojo Rabbit.
Now, presumably after directing his follow-up to Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi will next co-write and direct an installment in Disney’s other landmark franchise: Star Wars. Sharing writing duties with Waititi will be Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who co-wrote 1917 with Sam Mendes.
While we have no word yet on a production start date or release date for the project, we’ll keep you posted here!
