‘Thy Kingdom Come’ Trailer revealed as Spinoff from Terrance Malick’s ‘To the Wonder’; to premiere at SXSW 2018

Feb 20, 2018

The trailer for the an upcoming short film, ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ has landed online, revealing to be a spin-off from 2012’s To The Wonder starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem. In the 2012 film, Javier Bardem plays a priest struggling with his faith.

According to The New Yorker, photojournalist Eugene Richards was hired by Malick to join him on the Bartlesville, Oklahoma set of To the Wonder, where Richards was tasked with filming scenes in which Javier Bardem’s priest character would interview actual residents of the town. Years later, it appears those interactions were developed into a short film of its own.

The film is 43 minutes long and includes many heartwearming tales. Interesting, many of the residents opened up to Bardem as if he was a real priest. The film’s footage will include Bardem speaking to a former Ku Klux Klan member who has renounced his racist past to an emaciated woman battle cancer.

Thy Kingdom Come will debut at the SXSW Film Festival next month.
