Nintendo recently announced that they’ll be hosting a Splatoon 2 Splatfest this month which will be a part of a tie-in with the upcoming Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series coming to Nickelodeon. This Splatfest is a little different from previous matches, as this one will include a multi-rount tournament pitting the four Ninja Turtles against each other to determine which is the best.
On the upcoming partnership, Doug Bowser, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo of America, stated,
We love working with unexpected partners to expand our brand and bring smiles to people’s faces in surprising ways…teaming up with Nickelodeon and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made perfect sense, as we share many of the same fans who enjoy family-friendly entertainment and classic characters.
Splatfests let players voice their opinions by choosing and representing one of two choices in matchmaking. Once you have made your decision, you cannot change for the remainder of the Splatfest. Previous Splatoon 2 fests have had players pick between Mayo vs. Ketchup, Vampires vs. Werewolves, and Sweaters vs. Socks. When a player picks a side to fight for and competes in online multiplayer matches, their team earns points. The winner are then decided by a combination of popularity and team win rate. Players are rewarded after the Splatfest based on both their individual performance and their team’s performance.
To participate, players won’t be asked to order a pizza, hop on a skateboard or save the city from an army of masked ninjas – they can just start voting for their pick beginning on April 27 simply by visiting the in-game Inkopolis Square. The first of three in-game Splatoon 2 Splatfest tournaments takes place May 4-5 and pits Raph against Leo, with the second running May 11-12 and featuring Mikey vs. Donnie. The final match between the winners of the first two showdowns takes place May 18-19. The full schedule is below:
Round 1: Raph vs. Leo
May 4 (Friday), 9 p.m. PT – May 5 (Saturday), 9 p.m. PT
Round 2: Mikey vs. Donnie
May 11 (Friday), 9 p.m. PT – May 12 (Saturday), 9 p.m. PT
May 18 (Friday) 9 p.m. PT – May 19 (Saturday), 9 p.m. PT
What do you think about the upcoming event? With TMNT being the first to partner with Splatoon, what other crossovers would you like to see make their way to the game? Also, which Ninja Turtle is your favorite. You bet, I’ll be representing #TeamDonnie.
