Tom Hardy’s Al Capone Flick ‘Fonzo’ Begins Filming This April In New Orleans

Feb 21, 2018

Tom Hardy has been a busy bee lately, jumping onto Sony’s Venom which he recently wrapped. And we have an update of sorts on the long-gestating Al Capone biopic Fonzo which Tom is attached to star.

We can now confirm an April start date for Fonzo which will shoot in New Orleans, Lousiana. It’s expected to begin filming on April 2nd and will wrap on May 15th.

The Josh Trank (Chronicle) project would tackle Al Capone’s life during his prison sentence while suffering the effects of dementia while reflecting on his violent past. Trank was aiming to begin shooting on multiple occasions but was repeatedly delayed due to Hardy’s busy schedule.

This could be a redemption of sorts for Trank after his reported toxic attitude during the filming of Fantastic Four which led to his removal on the Boba Fett movie he was working on at Lucasfilm alongside Lawrence Kasdan and Fantastic Four producer Simon Kinberg. Oddly enough, there had been a rumor Hardy was being eyed for a role in Trank’s Star Wars movie before things collapsed.

It’s still expected that Hardy will star as Capone.

Louisana has been an attractive filming location for major productions recently with Dawn of The Planet of The Apes, Logan, Jurassic World along with upcoming superhero productions such as Gambit and Captain Marvel.

Fonzo is without a release date or major distributor.
