In a strange bit of casting news today, it looks like Sony is taking their long rumored Uncharted movie in a new direction.
According to multiple sources including Deadline and IGN, Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland has signed on to play Nathan Drake, the main character from their highly popular Uncharted video game series. This is a developing story and more details are sure to follow, but from the current reporting it looks like the studio will be making the first Uncharted film a prequel to the original series of games and Holland will play a younger version of the main character.
Mark Wahlberg has been previously attached to the project. Sony has tapped Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy to direct the film. The third act of the most recent game Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is said to be the basis for the new film which features Nathan’s first encounter with the character Sully.
Tom Holland can next be seen playing the title character in Spider-Man: Homecoming July 7, 2017.
