TRAILER: ‘Cars 3’ Changes Everything

Nov 22, 2016

Today, Disney-Pixar released the first teaser trailer for their 2017 release, Cars 3.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!

It appears all the original voice actors are returning. However, is making the young technician female a nod to the increasing females in racing like Danica Patrick or a new romance to replace Sally (Bonnie Hunt)? There is also no word on who will be voicing Ramirez.

The trailer will debut with “Moana” on Thursday but this may cause problems. There are already reports of the trailer upsetting children who see it. As seen above, the trailer consists of Lightning McQueen racing and getting into a horrible wreck with debris flying everywhere from his vehicle. The cliffhanger doesn’t show that McQueen is will be fine or even if he is still alive. Instead, the audience is told “From this moment, everything will change.” Parents will have to provide the reassurance and have their children calmed down before “Moana” begins. All this turmoil from a 50 second trailer and people complain about the beginning of “Up”.

Among the adult audience, the teaser trailer works beautifully. It’s exciting and gets people talking, more akin to a Marvel teaser trailer than a typical Pixar film teaser. The trailer also lets everyone know that this film will go back to the more dramatic tone of the first “Cars” film rather than the light-hearted spy romp that was “Cars 2”.

“Cars 3” will be released in the United States on June 16, 2017.
