The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) of the United Arab Emirates has launched Falcon 40B, an open-source large language model (LLM) with 40 billion parameters. Falcon 40B was trained on a trillion tokens of data and the technology’s creators hope to attract startups to use the LLM, which is larger than rival models. TII is offering resources and funding from its VentureOne commercial investment group to entice developers to use Falcon 40B and to come up with innovative use cases. The open-source approach is aimed at helping the TII stand out from rivals like OpenAI and Google.
