Late last year Microsoft announced that it planned on moving forward with the long-in-development adaptation for Gears of War. This came after Rod Fergusson took over as head of Microsoft subsidiary The Coalition. While the film has been in development hell since about 2007. The video game series has surpassed $1 billion worldwide and lead the way for Xbox 360 gaming in the early 2000’s.
Now Deadline is reporting that the screenwriter behind co-writing all the upcoming Avatar sequels Shane Salerno has been tapped to write Gears of War. They also add that the film won’t be a direct adaptation of any one game but set within the same universe. Much like this past year’s Assassins Creed.
