Universal To Adapt Image Comics’ ‘Sex Criminals’ For TV

Feb 26, 2015

Universal has made an exciting two-year deal with husband and wife comic book creators Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick, that allows the duo to use their Milkfed Criminal Masterminds production company to adapt their own work – as well as the work of other writers and creators – for television.

To start, Fraction and DeConnick have already set their sights on their first endeavor: Fraction and artist Chip Zdarsky‘s critically-acclaimed and award-winning Sex Criminals

The ongoing Image Comics series tells the story of Suzie, a woman who can stop time when she orgasms. When she meets John, a man that possesses the same ability, they do what any love-making, time-stopping couple would do: rob banks.

Sex Criminals

It’s easy to see how a series like Sex Criminals could work in live action, but one has to wonder how Universal plans to release and properly market the risque property. The report doesn’t mention which network the series could call home, so how faithful the adaptation will be (or is even allowed to be) to the source material remains to be seen.

There’s also no word on what else Fraction and DeConnick hope to adapt as part of this new partnership, but there’s no denying that Sex Criminals is a bold and exciting place to start.
