Universal Pictures looks to be finally getting production up and running soon on their third incarnation of the film Scarface with director Antoine Fuqua. The director previously had to bow-out last minute to focus on The Equalizer sequel for Sony, but due to some hiccups the studio ended up delaying the film which allowed Fuqua to end up returning to helm.
Omega Underground has now learned that filming is set to begin on October 1st.
As we previously reported Scarface’s filming locations include Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Mexico.
The first film from the 1930’s focused on an Italian immigrant in Chicago (based on Al Capone and used his nickname Scarface), the second movie starring Al Pacino was a Cuban refugee in Miami, and this third one will focus on a Mexican immigrant trying to make his American dream come true in California.
Originally, Diego Luna was set to be playing the lead role but it remains to be seen if that is still happening. Luna plays a cartel leader in the latest season of Netflix’s Narcos which I assume might help his chances to stay on as the lead.
Universal has yet to give the film a new release date.
