What was your first Cosplay Experience?
My first con was Otafest 2003. I dressed as Evil Zukin fromm DDR and picked up a judges choice award. It was their first cosplay contest. On that Sunday, I was a White Mage from Final Fantasy. Cosplay was not as big back then. We didn’t have all the amazing resources we do today, but it was a simpler time. Not as impressive though!
How long have you been Cosplaying?
Since 2003
Who or What inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
In 2001 I saw photos of people dressed up while looking up anime. I knew I had to get into it somehow. I decided to take sewing in home economics classes seriously. Then 2 years later, I finally found an event to go to.
If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn or see someone else where What would it be?
My favorite cosplay has to be Lulu from Final Fantasy X. I had to rush to finish it for my shoot last June with Tali xoxo, Becka Bee, and Glen Co. Because of that, some flowers started falling off during the shoot. However, it photographed wonderfully. I will definitely repair it for an upcoming con!
If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
A costume I would love to make is Edea from Final Fantasy VIII. Or Ultimecia. It’s my favorite game! Being an evil sorceress would be so much fun!
What advice would you offer others who are aspiring Cosplayers?
Cosplay what you like. Don’t worry about trends or hype.
Learn to sew properly if you want to wear your costumes more then once. It takes a lot of time and effort, but it’s worth it! Experiment with different materials. It will take trial and error to discover your style. Never stop learning!
