What was your first Cosplay experience?
Making my Masquerade Iron Man costume. I had always wanted to cosplay but never took the plunge until Cos and Effect 2013. I didn’t tell anyone I was doing it and tried to pretend that I knew what I was doing when buying fabric. I had to Google how to thread a sewing machine and a ton of other sewing questions. I’m happy it turned out well and I was able to pull it off, because it super kick started my love of cosplay and got me hooked.
How long have you been Cosplaying?
Just over a year and a half now!
Who or what inspired you to take up Cosplaying?
I saw Yaya Han’s Carmilla costume in a video and was so amazed. She made me realize its possible to become any character and to make anything. She’s such a huge inspiration and I strive to someday be able to create such amazing and detailed costumes as hers.
If you had to pick a favorite Cosplay you have worn, or have seen someone else wear, what would it be?
My favourite I’ve seen someone else wear is Yaya’s Carmilla of course haha. For myself though, my personal favourite is a tie between my Skeletor and Zangief. Skeletor because the staff alone is easily my best work and Zangief because it’s seriously the most fun costume to wear!
If you had unlimited funds and resources, what Cosplay would you create?
StarCraft space marines. I really, really want to do a gender bent Jim Raynor someday and make his full armour. Someday I’ll do it hahaha.
What advice would you offer to those who are aspiring Cosplayers?
Jump in and don’t be afraid. The haters are always gonna hate on something, but the cosplay community as a whole is so warm and welcoming that it doesn’t matter. Do what you love and don’t listen to what others say.
