We plunge back into the spine-chilling thriller W0rldtr33 from Image Comics and series creator James Tynion IV. This issue kept me awake long after my bedtime contemplating what the hell is actually going on.

Review of W0rldtr33 #3

The comic is a direct continuation from issue two, meaning that we still follow the same events and visit the same places where we left the characters. We see Ellison getting into the car outside the police station, and Gabriel breaking into the said police station to retrieve the evidence on Ellison’s kid brother. The situation that Darren and Amanda find themselves in reminded me of BirdBox (The Netflix thriller starring Sandra Bullock) as they have to blindfold themselves to avoid looking at the computer screen currently flashing in Fausta’s face. They have to find a way to save Fausta, cover the computer, and survive a house now set on fire.

A lot is happening in the latest installment, and the story is becoming more intriguing as we descend further into this rabbit hole. Something interesting seems to be forming. This might just be my imagination, but it could also be the link to something much more sinister. There are a couple of instances that would fly straight over your head if you don’t pay actual attention to what you are reading and seeing.

Yes, the art is fantastic, and it’s easy to get the images stuck in your head, missing the actual evolving story. As I mentioned before, I might be overthinking this, but hear me out. We have the feds referring to their “boss” as the devil, and then we have Gabriel, who helps run a search engine called Angel. For me, this sets up the premise of good and evil, especially if you look at it in Biblical terms. Then we encounter what Gabriel refers to as “an inelegant way” of explaining the undernet. There is a malevolent force that resides in the undernet. So, this is not just a form of brainwashing, it is an actual entity that can possess one’s being. Where one will have to perform a type of exorcism to get rid of it.

Final thought

In this latest installment of W0rldtr33, the suspense continues to grip me tightly. With a direct continuation from the previous issue, the story delves even deeper leaving us on the edge of our seats. The clever parallels and subtle hints scattered throughout the narrative add a layer of intrigue. Making me question the forces at play. James Tynion IV skillfully weaves together a tale of good versus evil. With the search engine Angel and the malevolent undernet serving as symbolic battlegrounds. As the plot unfolds, the sense of impending danger grows, leaving me eagerly anticipating the resolution. W0rldtr33 is a thrilling ride that will linger in your thoughts long after you’ve turned the final page.
