With Zachary Levi announced as taking on the title character in the big screen adaptation of DC Comics Shazam!, speculation began as to who would play the characters human form Billy Batson.
According to Variety and CBR, actor Asher Angel will be taking on the role of young Billy Batson. In the comics, Billy has usually been portrayed as a good kid with a tragic background who remains positive in the face of adversity. When he utters the name Shazam, he transforms into an adult superhero with the powers of the ancient Gods, but retains the mind of Billy.
Asher Angel is known for his role of Jonah Beck on the Disney Channel series Andi Mack.
Lights Out director David F. Sandberg is directing the film that will also star Grace Fulton playing one of Batson’s friends and Mark Strong, who is currently in negotiations to play the film’s villain.
