What We Do In The Shadows invades SXSW

Apr 9, 2019

The TV series What We Do In The Shadows premiered during SXSW this year and the cast as well as Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement were in attendance where they held a hilarious Q&A to discuss the series, the film that inspired it and their return to SXSW.

Taika kicked off the Q&A to discuss how the project came about.

“We got tricked into doing this. We thought we were finished with this thing and then this up-and-coming producer called Scott Ruden called us up and said ‘Hey, you should do this thing.’ I said yes, then tricked Jemaine into doing it. Then FX said yes. As soon as it was all set up, I left to do Thor and left you [Jemaine] to do it all by yourself.”

Jemaine on why they chose the States for the setting for the show, “Because the people who are paying us to do it is from America so we thought, wow this was the perfect place!”

Honestly, these these could make a show with just the two of them carrying a conversation and it would be an automatic hit. The charisma, and comedic timing between these guys are like none other. But don’t just take my word for it, check out the Q&A video below.

Synopsis:

Based on the feature film of the same name from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, “What We Do in the Shadows” is a documentary-style look into the daily (or rather, nightly) lives of four vampires who’ve “lived” together for hundreds of years in Staten Island. After an unexpected visit from their dark lord and leader, the vampires are reminded of what they were initially tasked with upon their arrival in New York City over a century ago — total and complete domination of the New World. But what exactly is the best way to go about achieving said domination? A vérité camera crew follows along as the vampires set out to answer this query.
What We Do In The Shadows airs on FX on Wednesdays stars Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillen, and Mark Proksch.
If you are a fan of the original film, I would highly advise checking out the series, it plays true to the source.
