Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been clamoring for some type of female lead superhero epic set in the MCU. Now while we are getting Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson in 2019; the women of the MCU want to take it to the next level.
While promoting Jumanji star Karen Gillian (Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy films) revealed to IndieWire that her fellow Marvel co-stars actually went as a group to Marvel head Kevin Feige demanding (in a nice way) Marvel consider an all female Marvel team-up. The group included Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Pom Klementieff (Mantis) and Brie Larson (Captain Marvel):
“Brie Larson was like, ‘We should go up to Kevin Feige and tell him to make an all-female Marvel movie,’ so we marched up there in a group, a whole herd of us, and said that to him. He was like, ‘Yeah, that would be amazing!’ but he didn’t really commit to it, but he thought it would be a great idea. Look at the success of Wonder Woman. It’s clear we all want that.”
Director Joss Whedon revealed to The Wrap in 2016 that he would return to direct another MCU film if it was an all-female Avengers type film: “Yeah, of course. Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants.” However, it should be noted a female director is more than capable in directing an epic female Avengers film as evident by great female directors like Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) or even Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone). Could be based off the 2015 run of A-Force which featured an all-female superhero team lead by She-Hulk.
I took this shot for my daughter and it’s the coolest picture I’ve ever taken! #BadassLadiesOfMarvel ?@MarvelStudios @Avengers @Guardians @Antman @theblackpanther @captainmarvel @thorofficial #AvengersInfinityWar pic.twitter.com/u36x1SB0zN
